The Tikka Masala sauce by Finnish food company Meeat Food Tech Oy has been highlighted as one of the most impressive new food innovations at Anuga, the world’s leading food fair.

Anuga is the leading global trade fair for the food and beverage industry and is held every second year in Cologne, Germany. This year’s trade fair, which takes place 9-13 October, has attracted around 8000 exhibitors, and 170,000 visitors from more than 200 countries are expected to attend.

The Anuga Taste Innovation Show held in connection with the trade fair presents the most important food innovations to visitors and the media. The show is followed closely around the world and serves as inspiration to the global food market.

This year, 418 companies with more than 1332 ideas applied for inclusion in the special show. From these, the jury of international trade journalists and market research analysts selected 67 products and concepts that were convincing in terms of idea, innovation, sustainability and creative implementation. Meeat Tikka Masala was one of the 67 products highlighted.

“It feels great that our products have been recognised at the world’s leading food fair. It is great to present Finnish food tech to the world,” says Mikko Karell, CEO of Meeat Food Tech Oy.

According to the Anuga jury, Meeat Tikka Masala is a delicious plant-based sauce made from stomach friendly fermented fava bean that is gluten free and easy to prepare just by heating it up. The sauce can be enjoyed straight out of the package with rice, for example. It can also be used as the base for a special sauce according to individual preference, for example by adding coconut milk. The product is made in Finland using 100% wind power.

Fermentation is a traditional way of preparing and storing food. The process adds flavour to foods and makes them stomach friendly. As a result, fermentation has become very trendy in the food industry in recent years.

Meeat develops delicious and sustainable plant-based products that make it easy to replace meat in everyday and familiar recipes. The ingredients used in Meeat products include fava bean protein and kidney beans. Meeat is initially targeting the Nordic and Baltic markets with the intention of expanding further in the future.

“We believe that by challenging the current food system and its norms, we can make a big difference. By developing tasty products that appeal to many and that have a smaller impact on our planet, we can replace meat with more future-friendly options,” Karell adds.
